Coca-Cola, the global drinks giant has approved its biggest UK sponsorship contract by linking itself with the Premier League as the seventh commercial partner.
This sponsorship deal settled by Coca-Cola holds a tenure of three-and-a-half-years which starts in January 2019. However, the financial details aren’t yet disclosed.
Coca-Cola will enjoy the tag of being the official soft drink partner for the UK football league, linking with other sponsors such as Barclays, Cadbury, Nike, Carling, EA Sports, and Tag Heuer.
General Manager of Coca-Cola Great Britain and Ireland, Jon Woods, said, "We have a long and rich history supporting football at all levels, from the grassroots to the world stage. "
Coca-Cola is renowned for supporting sporting events and is known to sponsor the football World Cup as well as the Olympic Games.
According to sports sponsorship expert Nigel Currie, Coca-Cola is trying to follow what PepsiCo did with their sponsorship with Champions League and have utilized it to “promote different brands they own” across varied geographic territories.
Richard Masters, managing director of the Premier League, stated that from the previous campaigns across the sports sector, the connection with the fans is excellent at the global level and also the ideas they bring in are impressive. He further added, “the league benefit from their huge reach” across the UK and the world would surely work out positively.
Coca-Cola employs 3,500 people all around the UK and also owns Fanta, Schweppes, Oasis, and Sprite among others.
It has been revealed that, apart from the digital initiatives, the renowned drinks company will also back a nationwide Premier League trophy tour.
