brazil carbonated soft drinks market faces challenge with healthier options

The carbonated soft drinks industry in Brazil has realized that consumers are in search for healthier products and therefore has discovered ways to make the category healthier.

Soft drinks are immensely popular beverages which primarily consist of carbonated water, sugar, and flavorings. At present, Brazil is one of the top 20 consumers of soft drinks all across the globe. It is noted that the carbonated soft drinks category in Brazil has acquired stable growth in the past few years.

As per a recent research report published by Market Research Hub (MRH), volume sales of Brazilian soft drinks is anticipated to get better from 2017, with positive growth predicted from 2018, as a result of encouraging effects from both consumer demand and offers.

However, looking at the current situation, the Brazilian market for carbonated soft drinks is losing traction due to two main factors which are economic recession and the selection by Brazilian consumers for products they consider more healthful. As a result, the CSDs are losing space in Brazil beverage market.

It is important to know that, the carbonated soft drinks industry has very well realized that consumers are in search for healthier products and therefore have found out ways to make the category healthier with options like, removing ingredients rated to be bad such as sugar and artificial aromas, or with the addition of ingredients that offer healthier benefits and functionality, such as proteins and fiber. Considering the perspective of the consumers, it has been analyzed that consumers aged 35+ desire healthier products. Also, women also seek useful benefits and the amount of gas contained in CSDs does create a barrier for young people.

As per recent studies, it has been noted that various companies have invested in offering healthful carbonated soft drinks, with the addition of tea and natural fruit juice.
